Location: Work from home (UK only),
Salary: £25,000-£35,000,
Slug Disco Studios is an independent games studio founded in 2014. We are best known for developing an insect themed PC strategy game called “Empires of the Undergrowth” which was released in Steam’s Early Access programme in December 2017.
Despite being fully remote, we try to foster a very collaborative work environment where everyone can work to their strengths, ask for help, and team up on difficult jobs.
The ideal candidate should be interested in strategy games, ideally both from a development perspective and as a player. We feel that this is really important for you to be able to enjoy your work.
Responsibilities include:
- Supporting low-level systems design and development for our next game
- Identifying performance issues with existing systems, and proposing & implementing potential solutions
- (Optional) Prototyping new game systems / mechanics and iterating based on feedback
- (Optional) Higher level systems design and development (game modes, levels etc)
Desired skills:
As a Junior programmer, we don’t expect you to jump straight into the above responsibilities without training and support. For the first 6-9 months, you’ll receive mentorship from our development team as you work on a variety of small projects designed to ease you into the role. However, you must demonstrate an aptitude for, or interest in games programming through past projects (commercial or hobby) and/or a strong degree in a STEM subject.
You will be working mostly with C++ in Unreal Engine 4 and 5. However, prior experience with these game engines is not necessary.
We’re a small team and we’re interested in hearing about what other skills you could bring to the table and about any skills you are hoping to develop while working with us.
