Location: Work from home
Salary: based on experience & qualifications (£21,000+)
Deadline for applications: 25th October 2020

Slug Disco Studios is an independent games studio founded in 2014. Our main project is an insect themed PC strategy game called “Empires of the Undergrowth” which was released in Steam’s Early Access programme in December 2017.

As a small studio, part of our marketing strategy is to provide detailed, regular  behind-the-scenes updates on our projects through our social media channels. To date, most of this content has been produced by the developers, and as the workload has been growing steadily over the past year, we feel the time has come to hand these jobs (and several other marketing/community/storefront management tasks) over to someone who can give them the care and attention they deserve.

We’re looking for someone able to work with our existing marketing strategies but also to bring in their own ideas, with free rein to experiment on different social media platforms. The ideal candidate should also be interested in the sort of games we are working on (which could be considered niche), ideally both from a development perspective and as a player. This is important, not only for your ability to identify what the community would be interested in seeing, but also for you to be able to enjoy the work.

Responsibilities include:

  • Creating shareable content for games we want to promote (videos / gifs / screenshots / feature overviews / update reports etc)
  • Uploading game news & updates to various store fronts
  • Stay on top of best practises on various storefronts, make changes where possible
  • Advise the team of any upcoming promotions / marketing opportunities
  • Working closely with the community manager in replying to player questions, organising bug reports, collating & forwarding feedback to the development team
  • Contacting relevant news sites, youtubers, streamers etc with updates & managing promotional game key distribution
  • Some QA testing

Required skills:

  • Video capture, video editing & image editing skills  –  You will need to use OBS (or equivalent) and editing tools such as Adobe Premiere, After Effects & Photoshop.
  • Writing skills – You will need to author public-facing captions/short paragraphs/full articles about our games, events, development processes etc.
  • Ability to research & learn new skills independently – Where you are not familiar with certain tasks, you should be comfortable searching for & following web tutorials (if available) as well as asking the team for help.

Desired skills:

As we are a very small operation, anything else you can bring to the table will be a big plus. We’re all ‘jack-of-all-trades’ here so if you can do a bit of art, VFX, programming, web-dev, game design, live streaming, UX, accounting, translation, myrmecology, international contract law, brain surgery, rocket science or anything else that might be relevant, we’d really like to hear from you.
