Location: Work from home (UK),
Salary: Based on experience & qualifications (£24,000+),
Deadline for applications: 7th May 2021

Slug Disco Studios is an independent games studio founded in 2014. Our main project is an insect themed PC strategy game called “Empires of the Undergrowth” which was released in Steam’s Early Access programme in December 2017.

At the moment, Slug Disco is a 5-person operation, but as we are heading to the finish line with development of Empires and beginning to take on new projects, we are looking to expand our team. Although entirely remote, with no central office, we try to foster a very collaborative work environment where everyone can work to their strengths, ask for help, and team up on jobs where two is better than one.

As well as bringing new skills into the team, the ideal candidate should also be interested in the sort of games we are working on, ideally both from a development perspective and as a player. We feel that this is really important for you to be able to enjoy your work, so if you’ve ever wanted to command your own ant colony, evolve your own fish, or keep pet beetles, then we’re sure you’ll absolutely love working in our team!

We are looking for an enthusiastic UI artist to help design and implement user interfaces for our games.

Responsibilities include:

  • Creating game user interfaces for PC and game consoles.
  • Building prototypes from basic designs and iterating upon them based on team feedback
  • Identifying gaps and issues with current designs, and proposing & implementing potential solutions
  • Collaborating with other team members to solve UI challenges (e.g., localisation & future proofing against planned and unplanned game changes).

Required skills:

  • Experience of having worked on a video game UI
  • Experience in 2D image applications like Photoshop
  • Ability to implement UI designs in Unreal Engine’s editor.

Desired skills:

There is plenty of opportunity to learn and develop your skills, working with us. We’re a small team and we’re interested in hearing about what other skills you could bring to the table and about any skills you are hoping to develop while working with us. This could be anything from a flare for concept art, to an interest in web development. If it’s something that’s part of making and publishing games, the chances are, we need it.

We welcome applications from all backgrounds and are eager to diversify our team so please don’t be put off by the homogeneous line-up on our team page.

To apply: Send a CV, cover letter and some examples of your work to jobs@slugdisco.com
